As everyone braces for Hurricane Florence to make landfall, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issued a regional emergency declaration for Delaware, District of Colombia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. FMCSA Issues Emergency Declaration

The declaration is for motor carriers and drivers providing direct assistance to the emergency in the affected states and jurisdictions in direct support of relief efforts related to Hurricane Florence.

Individual States Declaration & Waivers

North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky have released individual declarations or waivers so supplies including food, fuel and clothing could reach the affected areas without the limitation of oversize permits and hours-of-service (HOS) in some cases.

North Carolina will waive certain size and weight restrictions and penalties up to a certain weight and size. View the state’s executive order for more details.

Kentucky’s Declaration of Emergency also limits drivers from being held to hours of service rules while transporting relief supplies.

Virginia’s waiver temporarily waives normal weight and width restrictions on roads controlled by the Virginia DOT.
